PRESS RELEASE - The National Workers Union (NWU) is extremely concerned with the escalating cost of goods and services on the island.
The NWU strongly believes that should this trend be allowed to continue without measuring its social consequence, workers of this country will soon be unable to meet their domestic economic obligations.
While some employers are seen battling to keep their businesses operational, we are now beginning to experience layoffs, redundancies, terminations and closures. The National Workers Union sees such action as discouraging and inflicting the hardest punishment on the working people of Saint Lucia.
We are now lagging far behind, but we cannot give up. We must be more tolerant. We must respect the views and opinions of others and be fully prepared to construct a national economic programme that will have the support and approval of the majority to get Saint Lucia out of its economic ditch.
