Saint Lucia has been named among countries in the region, which collect the most tax revenue.

Caribjournal.com, in an article named “Ranking the Caribbean on Tax Revenue”, rated the island as the fourth highest tax revenue collecting country in the region.

The article states that these statistics are according to recently-released 2012 World Bank data on tax revenue collected by central governments around the world per Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The publication went on to describe tax revenue, as the “compulsory transfers to the central government for public purposes,” based on the World Bank’s definition.

Trinidad was said to have the highest rate of revenue collection with 28.3 percent, while Jamaica was number two with 26.1. Barbados was next with 25.2 percent and St. Lucia with 24.2. Dominica was in fifth place with 23.4 percent.

Pointing to further World Bank statistics, the article said that the world’s rate of revenue collection stood at about 14.5.
