Regional Marketing Manager of the Saint Lucia National Lottery (SNL) Mary Edward has revealed an increase in participation in lottery games in St.Lucia.
Speaking to Saint Lucia News Online (SNO) in a brief interview on Wednesday, June 4, Edward said there appears to be a change in the population’s mindset about lottery games in recent times and more persons, which include the youth, are indulging in these games.
“Persons are playing now. New persons are entering the whole gaming market. We’ve seen that and we’ve seen some younger persons as well. [Normally] young persons are not really into lotto but now they are realising that they too can be winners,” Edward said.
Ask whether she thought that the current economic situation could be one of the contributing factors to the increased participation, Edward responded, “I wouldn’t be so naive to say no. Yes, it is. I mean, the whole economic climate definitely has an influence over the whole lottery industry and persons now looking for chances even more than before. So that’s very evident.”
Just today, SNL presented its latest Super 6 winner – Jn Baptiste Mathurin of Dennery – with $360,000. He is the second St. Lucian in recent times to win that draw.
Super 6 is played in all the Windward Islands. Players of those islands all compete for the attractive jackpot which this game carries. The Super 6 game was introduced to the public on December 12, 2005, replacing the multi-jurisdictional game known as WinLotto.
The St. Lucia National Lottery currently boasts 88 active terminal-based agents and 25 instant ticket-only agents island-wide.
