A 57-year-old man of Richfond Dennery who has been playing the lottery from the time it was introduced to St. Lucia, is the newest Saint Lucia National Lottery’s (SNL) Super 6 winner.
Jn Baptiste Mathurin was presented with his $360,000 cheque at a short handing over ceremony at the Saint Lucia National Lottery’s office at the Gablewoods Mall on Wednesday (June 4).
“I never gave up. I played every Tuesday and every Friday. When I got to know that I was the winner I got excited. Happy as anyone can be,” he said.
Mathurin said that while he has no immediate plans for the money, he intends to help his family and relatives with their expenses. He said he also wants to donate some funds to the church and needy.
His advice to lottery players and those who are considering playing is “you got to try. Without a ticket you can’t be a winner.”
Mathurin is the second Super 6 winner from St. Lucia this year.
Meanwhile, Regional Marketing Manager of SNL Mary Edward said, “It’s always great when we can present our check to one of our own because it’s a game that is played throughout the Windward Islands. So we are always happy that we can give not just small but in a big way,” she said.
Edward took the opportunity to congratulate Mathurin and expressed hope that more winners will come from St. Lucia in the near future.
“Most importantly he understands that you cannot win all the time but he kept on playing because he believed that his time would come and… hopefully we will see some more winners from St. Lucia very soon,” Edward said.
In January, Rene Felix, a 38-year-old business analyst at the Eastern Caribbean Financial Holding Company, won $355,000 in SNL’s Super 6 draw.
Super 6 was introduced here in 2005. In 2011, the year of the highest winning, $487,000 was won.
Super 6 starts off at $200,000 and accumulates until it is won. This particular jackpot was won five months after it begun.
