Whether you’re a young person who recently graduated, just starting your career or finally moving out on your own, it can be hard to keep track of your personal finances.

First Citizens Investment Services is aiming to change that and help young people manage their money, and prepare for the future with a free informative seminar on Tuesday, April 22 at the Bay Gardens Hotel under the theme: “The Best Financial Moves to Make in Your 20s & 30s”.

This is the second year that First Citizens Investment Services is hosting the evening session geared at promoting the financial fitness for young adults.

“When we first launched the seminar last year we were very pleased and encouraged by the level of participation by our young people. It showed that there is a definite willingness to be more investment savvy,” said First Citizens Business Development Manager Priscilla Charles.

Deciding to do the seminar again was a no-brainer for First Citizens as the company’s aim is to educate St Lucians at all levels about intelligent investment options. First Citizens annually hosts the Market Outlook Seminar, Women and Investing Seminar and a Budget Review Seminar.

This year the First Citizens youth symposium also received the glowing endorsement of the Ministry for Youth Development and is an official activity on the Official Calendar for Youth Month which is celebrated in April.

Speaking at the press launch for Youth Month on March 26, Programme Development Officer for the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Jim Xavier, lauded First Citizens for this unique event.

“This event uplifts our activities for Youth Month and we encourage young people to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Xavier.

“We want to thank First Citizens for coming on-board with us in trying to make youth month all encompassing of the development of young people.”

Business Development Officer Christine Charlemagne said at the launch that the Youth Seminar was something she felt passionate about and added that the company was honoured to be on the official calendar.

“If we all make different financial choices in our youth we would be in a much better position when we get older to achieve our dreams,” Charlemagne noted. “When we first came up with idea of focusing on young people we understood that it is in our youth that we often live carefree without thinking of the future. We want to change that mindset and get that 20-year-old that gets his or her first job to think about retirement, college education and getting their first home.”

The First Citizens Youth Seminar will include inspiring stories of success and expert advice about budgeting, retirement, owning your first home and alternative investment opportunities. The event is free and open to persons between the ages of 18 to 35.

Partners in the seminar include The Cell, Felly Belly and Choice TV.
