LUCELEC generation department wins National Award of Excellence

Members of the recognized LUCELEC Generation Department

The Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) generation department has been awarded a National Award of Excellence for outstanding contribution towards the education sector.

The department was recognized for its work at the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre (in Ciceron) where a core group of thirteen (13) members, supported by the other members of the department as needed, have volunteered since 2010.

To date these LUCELEC staffers have repaired and installed software on computers in the school’s computer lab, raised funds to replace a short circuited voltage regulator and worked with Courts to give the school a brand new stove.

The company volunteers have also undertaken maintenance jobs, pressure washing walls and stairs, painting, and with the assistance of other volunteers upgraded the playing field. In December 2013 they also delivered on a promise to fund the school’s Christmas Party raising over $2,000 towards the activity.

LUCELEC Shift Operator Graham King received the trophy and certificate at the National Excellence Awards

LUCELEC Shift Attendant Graham King accepted the trophy and certificate during the National Award of Excellence ceremony which was held on Tuesday January 21, 2014. He initiated the department’s volunteer efforts at the special needs school following attendance at a sign language course taught there.

“We feel appreciated and very happy the department was recognized for its efforts,” said King.

LUCELEC’s Managing Director Trevor Louisy said the company’s “Power of Caring” emanates from its staff, who are the ones who make LUCELEC the company that it is.

“The volunteerism demonstrated by the generation department who have given of their money, skills, and time is commendable because they did this on their own initiative. It speaks to the quality of leadership, cooperation, and support found at all levels in the organisation. Through their efforts they have forever changed the lives of several young people for the better, in a manner that demonstrates our company’s vision to be the energy that powers ours nation’s success.”

The generation department is one of ten at LUCELEC. It is based at the Cul-de-Sac compound and responsible for operating and maintaining the company’s generating systems and vehicle fleet.
