The government of Saint Lucia has extended words of gratitude to the various corporate entities that have come forward to provide support to victims of the Christmas Eve trough in one way or the other.

Since the December 24, 2013 weather system occurred, a number of corporate bodies have provided material support to affected persons through the Saint Lucia Red Cross and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO).

In a press release, government thanked the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association for its donation of $100,000 worth of support through its Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) to those who suffered injury. The association has said in a release that the TEF has “funded infrastructural works, kitchen equipment, administrative, school and student supplies for the Canaries Infant Schools and its 80 students.”

Among the businesses mentioned by government was telecommunications company Digicel which has provided supplies to the value of $85,000 to the Saint Lucia Red Cross. This included water, food, cleaning material and agents of varying kinds.

Earlier, the government thanked Buckeye, the new owner of the former Hess Terminal for its very generous contribution in the immediate aftermath of the trough, so soon after establishing its presence in Saint Lucia, the release said.

Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony also expressed gratitude to others who made cash contributions.

“I wish to thank St James Club at Morgan Bay for its donation of EC$50,000 to the recovery efforts. NH International, the company constructing the financial complex at Pointe Seraphine has also donated EC$20,000. This is in addition to a consignment of one hundred mattresses. These sums of money will go towards providing school and student supplies to children who suffered loss during the trough. I wish to thank too those persons who deposited their contributions to the accounts opened by the government at the various banks. No contribution is too small to receive. All of these donations and contributions demonstrate that we care for each other.”
