(PRESS RELEASE) – Staff from Saint Lucia’s Ministry of External Affairs have visited the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London to exchange views and ideas on how diplomats can be well prepared to represent their countries and citizens across the globe.
The visit was supported and facilitated by the British High Commission (BHC), Castries.
In a packed, one week, tailor designed programme some of the topics covered were consular work (the services a country provides to its citizens when they are overseas); diplomatic strategy; staffing structures in foreign services; using technology in diplomacy; and, the Diplomatic Academy as a platform to develop the skills and talents diplomats need to deliver their governments’ objectives overseas.
Commenting on the visit, Resident British Commissioner, Steve McCready said, “My colleagues in London and at the British High Commission have learned as much from staff of the Ministry of External Affairs as the other way around.
Strengthening our bilateral relations through initiatives like this can only help our two countries work closer together to face common challenges such as tackling climate change.”
