(SNO) — When Saint Lucian Joshua Esnard went to Tallahassee he never realized his dream would turn into a reality.
Esnard is the inventor of “Cut Buddy” — a hair and beard grooming kit which has become a hot seller.
It has been described as “genius” by GQ, has become a hot seller on Amazon, and has been featured on Shark Tank.
Esnard created the prototype of the Cut Buddy when he was 13 years old.
“My dad was cutting my hair, and he’s an old-school Caribbean guy, and he was just buzzing my hair down and I was like ‘Ah, I don’t think so,'” he told WCTV.
“I took it upon myself at 13 to use the shavers and clippers to try and cut my hair and I jacked my hair up. So, that’s when I started creating these templates so that I can stop myself from going too far,” he continued.
And the Cut Buddy was born.
The product was recently launched and has become very popular in the United States and Esnard is now in business for himself.
“The great thing about being an entrepreneur and having an invention that’s being licensed, you can actually spend a lot of time now coming up with new inventions and spending time with your family,” he told WCTV.
His strongest role models, Esnard said, are his parents, saying they showed him day in and day out, if you fight for a dream, you can achieve it.
Looking back, he told WCTV that he never realized he would make it so far.
“I didn’t think that I would be where I am today,” he stated. “I’d always thought that I’d work for someone, maybe the college system or for a major corporation.”
As a finance major at Florida State, he learned everything about business.
“You learn about financial modeling and trading stocks,” he said, according to WCTV.
It was only after his graduation that he realized he could go into business himself with the invention he created some 20 years prior.
“I started the prototype for the Cut Buddy when I was 13 years old,” he said.
Esnard has realized that working hard can make dreams become a reality.
