The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture continues its Encounter Series, which seeks to create a platform to engage members in discussions on important issues.
The Encounter Series will take a different format this year. There will be three panelists each making provocative presentations, offering different perspectives on the same issue. The Encounter will include a “Next Steps Component” where recommendations related to the subject at hand will be invited from the floor and each panelist will conclude by advancing three critical recommendations on the way forward.
The first Encounter will discuss the topical issue of the size of the Public Service. The decision of the Barbados Government to send three thousand people home has resonated throughout the Caribbean. The old adage “Lè bab kamwad ou pwi difé wosé sa ou” comes to mind. St. Lucia faces a serious fiscal crisis and fiscal deficit.
With economic growth stagnating, unemployment increasing, tax revenue shrinking and investment dropping. How does St. Lucia, a country with an extremely open economy, deal with those challenges while the global economy upon which we have traditionally depended on continue to at best show anemic growth?
Panelists for this encounter are Richard Peterkin-Accountant & Economist, Cyprian Montrope -Vice President, Trade Union Federation and Dr. Cletus Bertin- Director of Public Service Modernization. This Encounter is sponsored by JQ Charles Group of Companies and will take place on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at the Ixora Conference Room, Bay Gardens Inn from 6:30 p.m.
The Encounter series is a Chamber Members Only event with limited seating. Members are therefore encouraged to reserve their seats by registering through the Chambers office.
