A former St. Lucian island scholar has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) for the 2013-14 period.
Frank V. Myers, assurance partner with KPMG Eastern Caribbean, who has served in the ICAC in different roles since 2001, was recently selected to lead the organization. He served as secretary and vice president of the ICAC between 2001 and 2013.
According to a release, Myers has played a “key role in the development of the accountancy profession regionally and internationally”.
One of his visions is for the accountancy profession to be recognized and accepted as having a key role in the development of the region, the release said.
“To do this, we need to change the perception of our profession among business leaders, internal and external investors, regulators and the political directorate that we are mere historians. As accounting professionals, we must demonstrate that we have a clear understanding of the issues and challenges faced by our island nations and that by dint of our training and experience, we have a valuable role to play and can make a significant contribution to businesses and to the development of the region,” Myers said.
To add to his long list of accomplishments, Myers currently stands as president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean ICAEC, a position he held since 2006. He is also a former representative for the Caribbean and the Americas on ACCA’s International Assembly 2006 –2009, the release states.
The Edinburgh University graduate has a degree in mathematics and has been a qualified chartered accountant since 1984.
He is a former chairman of the Public Service Commission of St. Lucia and has done community service as a member of the Lions Club of St. Lucia, the Mental Health Association of St. Lucia and the St. Lucia School for the Deaf, among others.
Bahamian Jasmine Davis was elected vice president of the ICAC, while Jamaican Vintoria Bernard and Guayanes Khalil Alli were elected treasurer and secretary, respectively.
“The ICAC is a regionally recognized organization which represents seven English-speaking member institutes with a network of approximately 3,700 accountancy professionals throughout the region. It is the recognised regional organization dedicated to advancing the interest of accountants and professionals in the finance and accounting sector within the Caribbean through the promotion of internationally acceptable standards and best practices, thought leadership, research and continuing professional development,” the release said.
