Laborie Credit Union moves to new office

The Laborie Credit Union is now officially housed in a new “monumental building.”

On Wednesday, the institution held a formal opening ceremony to mark the occasion.

This new office is on the same lot of the credit union’s previous location.

Among those in attendance was Parliamentary Representative Alva Baptiste, a past director of the organisation.

Dr. Thomas Edward, also a former director, who now lectures at the UWI Cavehill Campus was the keynote speaker. The official ribbon cutting was done by Jevanic Henry of Laborie, a top performer at Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations.

The Laborie Credit Union was established in 1976. Business was then conducted within the walls of a sitting room belonging to Vida Darcheville. From there, the business eventually moved to a section of a community centre in the area and then to a building on Allan Louisy Street.

The Laborie Credit Union boasts of assets in excess of $100,000,000. According to its website, the financial institution’s is mandate is “to improve the quality of life of both its members and the community by being a leading community-based, people-oriented financial institution.”
