Rene Felix, a 38-year-old business analyst at the Eastern Caribbean Financial Holding Company, is now $355,000 richer after winning the St. Lucia National Lottery’s (SNL) Super 6 draw.
Felix was presented with his check at a short ceremony at SNL’s office at the Gablewoods Mall on Friday, one day before his 39th birthday.
“It’s a little bit surprising, but I came from a family with persons who are not… very excitable people so now that it’s becoming a check I guess I might feel a little differently as the funds are readily available to me,” Felix said.
He said while he played the lottery once or twice a week, he has never really been lucky at the games, unlike his mother who has won small amounts of cash on different occasions. That didn’t deter him though, as he continued playing regularly from the year after the lottery was introduced to St. Lucia.
A calm Felix told media that while he cannot list specific areas that the monies will be used, he will ensure that it is put to good use. He assured also that a small portion of his earnings will “definitely go to family”.

Regional Marketing Manager of SNL Mary Edward said this is the second time in a row that St. Lucia has won the Super 6 draw. Michael Ismael won $315, 000 in August last year. The marketing head was pleased to mention that Ismael’s winnings had brought about an improvement in his life as he was able to extend his home, among other things.
Super 6 was introduced here in 2005. In 2011, the year of the highest winning, $487,000 was won.
Felix is the first “young” winner of Super 6 – being within the age range of 25-40 years.
Super 6 starts off at $200,000 and accumulates until it is won. This particular jackpot was won five months after it begun.
