(PRESS RELEASE) — The Central Statistical Office (CSO) of Saint Lucia under the Department of Economic Development, Housing, Urban Renewal, Transport and Civil Aviation celebrated the twelfth observance of Caribbean Statistics Day on Oct. 15, and the third observance of the United Nation’s World Statistics Day on Oct. 20, under the theme “Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust.”

The CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) endorsed by the CARICOM Heads of Government at their Thirty-Ninth Regular Meeting (Jamaica, July 2018), is pertinent to this theme.

According to CARICOM, the RSDS is critical to the advancement of the regional integration process, as it is designed to make available, harmonized, intra-regional statistics to guide and monitor its progress and to provide information for decision-making, as well as to facilitate comparison on international level.

The Central Statistical Office has planned a week of activities to mark Caribbean Statistics Day and World Statistics Day 2020, which includes an opening ceremony/church service, press releases, social media postings, school visits, a display of statistical products and information on the upcoming Population and Housing Census, and an in-office slogan competition.

The overall objectives of these activities are to advance the awareness of statistics and the work of the Central Statistical Office and its importance in the development of the country.
