A technical assistance project aimed at developing culture within Saint Lucia and other Organization of American States (OAS) countries is being developed.
A Culture Satellite Account is being done through a partnership between the St. Lucian government and Secretaria de Informacion Cultural de Argentina (SInCA).
That project aims to strengthen the co-operation and knowledge exchange among OAS member states in the area of culture, according to a press release.
In that regard, a workshop, scheduled for Monday, January 27 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Auberge Seraphine will bring together stakeholders of the cultural sector to learn more about the initiative.
The forum is being hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and will feature Argentinian delegates delivering training on the implementation of the Culture Satellite Account.
According to the release, the Cultural Satellite Account project is expected to “facilitate increased awareness of the economic contribution of culture and improve the quality of data used in policy making”.
“SinCA’s project team, headed by Mr. Juan Manuel Zanabria, will provide training to statisticians and cultural practitioners in methodologies, procedures and modeling techniques utilized in the development of this system,” it added.
The Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries has welcomed the initiative and said it is working closely with the Department of Statistics in recognition of the need for enhanced collaboration among agencies in the development of the cultural and creative industries.
The training programme will commence with brief remarks delivered by representatives from the OAS, Argentinean Embassy and the Ministry of Tourism.
