A new collection of poems has been released by St. Lucian writer MacDonald Dixon.
“Beloved Country” as it is entitled, will be available at Sunshine Bookshop, Gablewoods Mall in the coming week.
The publication is one of several poetry collections which have been published by established St. Lucian writers this year, according to a press release.
Dixon recently played a starring role in Davina Lee’s Film “The Coming of Org”. He has been a very active writer since leaving school. He debuted in the poetry writing arena in 1973 with a publication entitled “Pebbles” as a gift to the government.
The novelist and actor has also been working with young dramatists and has been a director with the St Lucia Arts Guild. The St. Lucia Medal of Merit award winner has written many poems which have been featured in Link, Caribbean Quarterly and a host of other mediums.
Dixon was honoured by the St. Lucia Cultural foundation with a lifetime achievement award.
Some of his other books which are still in print are his novels ‘Season of Mist,’ ‘Misbegotten’, ‘Saints of Little Paradise’ and his short story collection ‘Careme.’
Dixon’s books can be found from major online booksellers, both in soft covers and as Kindle e-books, the release said.
Among the other local writers who have published books recently are Kendel Hippolyte who won the prestigious Bocas Literary Prize earlier this year, Adrian Augier, John Robert Lee and Derek Walcott.
