Axcel Finance, the regional microfinance institution, will be donating a portion of its earnings in the month of February to victims of the trough which wreaked havoc on certain families over the holiday season.
This is according to a press statement issued by Axcel’s CEO, Sam Rosenberg, earlier today.
According to Rosenberg, “the Board and Management of Axcel Finance have reviewed the situation in Saint Lucia in the aftermath of the storm and we have stepped up to the plate to do our part. We know that many vulnerable families – mainly in the southern part of the country were severely affected by the ravages of the storm. As a community institution, our very basis for being here is to alleviate poverty and fulfil an unmet need of providing small loans for the common man. Therefore, this decision to allocate a portion of our earnings – from all loans issued in February – to help the victims is compliant with our philosophy.”
Rosenberg also noted that the criteria for assisting would be simple, “Axcel Finance has made youth development initiatives a priority. Our donations, therefore, will go towards pre-school and infant school students in the affected areas.
