(St. Lucia News Online) — Gas stations in Saint Lucia will be adjusting their hours of operation in response to the government’s closure of non-essential commercial activities to fight the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet had announced at a press briefing on Friday, March 20 that effective Monday, March 23, 2020 there will be a “partial scale down” of non-essential commercial and social activities for two weeks.

The Petroleum Dealers Association said in a press release that gas stations will be cutting their hours of operation.

“Following the Prime Minster’s Address on Friday 20th, March 2020 in which he called for the closure of non- essential services and the need for gas stations to remain open to the public, gas stations will be shortening their hours of business,” the Association said.

Gas stations will be closed by 6 p.m. every day of the week, the Association said.

“Except in a few cases, some may remain open no later than 8 p.m. to facilitate emergency services and the observance of the 11 p.m. curfew,” the Association added.

As of Sunday, Saint Lucia has only two confirmed cases of the pandemic coronavirus which has killed over 10,000 people worldwide and infected over 250,000. The Minister of Health said Sunday that over 100 people are currently in quarantine and three in isolation. Local health officials said they now have the capacity to start testing for the virus this week.
