The generosity towards victims of the Christmas Eve flooding continues with the local distributors of Coca-Cola donating some 4,500 bottles of Crystal Clear water to the St. Lucia Red Cross today.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Du Boulays’ Bottling Company, Dunstan Du Boulay, presented the water as part of the ongoing relief efforts following the severe trough that resulted in six deaths and the destruction of roads, homes, bridges and damage to the water, telecommunications and electricity infrastructures.
“This donation is for distribution to the unfortunate victims in the areas devastated by the recent trough, on which we hope, will contribute towards easing the plight of those unfortunate persons as they continue to build their lives from this tragic situation to a state of normalcy,” Du Boulay said during a press briefing held at the Red Cross facility in Castries.
The Du Boulay bottling company has been donating water to the relief effort since the aftermath of the trough.
“I am extremely proud and honoured to present to the disaster relief effort going on in St. Lucia,” the CEO said.
The water donation is part of a worldwide relief effort on behalf of the Coca Cola company, which has in the past partnered with the Red cross on numerous occasions to bring aid to affected countries.
Director-General of the St. Lucia Red Cross, Terencia Gaillard, told St. Lucia News Online that the Red Cross has been receiving aid from many St. Lucians as well as funds from the Barbados Red Cross and the Martinique Disaster Relief Foundation, which have sent in food to be distributed.
She indicated that a great supply of the water donations have come from Barbados, Martinique and Du Boulay Bottling Company.
“So far we cannot complain. Things have been moving really smoothly,” Gaillard said.
She also indicated that the Red Cross would be going to Canaries to distribute water and food supplies to the affected people there – the institution’s fourth visit in that area.
Anse- la Raye, Vieux Fort, Laborie, Bexon and Micoud are other areas where the Red Cross has supplied.
