(PRESS RELEASE) – The Annual Prime Minister’s Independence Ball continues to make financial contributions to local charities.
On Monday 3rd February 2020 a cheque of four thousand dollars ($4000), stemming from 2019 auction of prizes, was handed over to Pamela Devaux, Founder of Saint Lucia Animal Protection Society. SLAPS was established in 1998 and is dedicated to improving the welfare of all the animals on the island of Saint Lucia.
“I want to say thank you to the government of Saint Lucia for this generous contribution. It will go a long way in helping us as we continue our programme of taking animals, especially dogs and cats off the streets and find them new homes,” said Ms. Devaux.
Cabinet Secretary Ben Emmanuel highlighted the importance of SLAPS and how charities like these form an integral part of our society.
“We here at the Office of the Prime Minister are happy to provide some financial assistance to such a worthy cause. We must say thank you to SLAPS for everything that you do,” said Mr. Emmanuel.
The Prime Minister’s Independence Ball 2020 is slated for Saturday, February 22nd from 7:00pm at the Grand Pavillion, the Ramp at Rodney Bay. In 2019 the Ball raised almost half a million dollars which was shared amongst 15 local charities and organisations.
