Digicel has joined with the St Lucia Red Cross for the donation of 6,000 1.5 litre bottles of water, food items, cleaning supplies and volunteers.
Over 1,500 families were affected by rains from the surface trough on December 24. Due to the unexpected flash flooding, many families in the communities of Anse La Raye, Bexon, Canaries, Soufriere and Vieux Fort lost most if not all personal effects and household furnishings.
“Digicel, as part of its continued corporate social responsibility to the people of St Lucia, immediately took action and partnered with the St Lucia Red Cross. An urgent need for the families was drinking water and as such Digicel purchased a 40ft container filled with 6,000 bottles of drinking water,” the company said.
“Upon further assessment of the impact and loss to families, Digicel donated over 400 cases of food supplies, inclusive of dry foods, canned foods, snacks, toiletries, plus a range of over 600 cleaning agents, mops, scrubbing brushes, bass brooms, bleach, disinfectants and detergents.”
Digicel’s staff members also volunteered their personal time and teamed up with the St Lucia Red Cross to package and deliver food items to the persons who suffered losses during the Christmas Eve rains.
