Vieux Fort Team
The Adopt-a-Cause Programme is an annual programme spearheaded by CIBC FirstCaribbean employees who identify and select organisations within their communities that are in need of a helping hand.
This year the bank’s employees opted to assist local schools in creating more lively and engaging school environments as well as providing supplies needed for a productive school year.
The corporate banking centre team visited the La Croix Maingot Combined School at the end of August bearing gifts of school shoes and socks as well as food supplies for the kids. The contribution was graciously received by Principal Christina Norley as well as the students who expressed their appreciation and gratitude.
Corporate banking team members Richard Sutherland and Luann Maraj shared information on the importance of saving with both students and teachers, highlighting the ways that education and saving go hand in hand.
Students also participated in a fun quiz where prizes of school supplies and craft items were won.
The Babanneau Secondary School’s Feeding Programme is now better able to provide meals to the school’s students thanks to a donation of food items from the Rodney Bay Branch as part of their Adopt-a-Cause activities.
The Bridge Street Retail Unit adopted the Bocage Combined School and over the course of three weekends the group sectioned off an area dedicated to house the school’s library and computer room, painted and built shelves for the room as well as refurbished ECCB coin boxes to be used as seats and storage boxes for the kids.
The Bank’s Alwyn Joseph painted a vibrant and colourful mural which when paired with other decorative elements created a welcoming room for reading and learning.
Students at the Fond St. Jacques Primary School in Soufriere can now participate in rousing sporting activities on their improved tennis court thanks to the hard work and initiative of the Soufriere Branch.
The Vieux Fort Branch visited the Augier Combined School to paint footpaths which direct students on the proper way to ascend and descend the stairs. In addition to the footpaths, the Vieux Fort team engaged in painting a hopscotch game for students to enjoy.
A bright and colourful play area was the fruit of a labour of love for the members of the local processing centre, and a result of their dedication and commitment over the course of three weeks. This month the students of the Vide Boutielle Primary School will enjoy various children’s board games, including hop scotch and snakes and ladders and an alphabet wheel which were painted onto the school’s playground. The team also engaged a local artiste to paint a mural on the school wall which promotes literacy and reading, highlighting that fun and learning can coexist.
CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Country Manager Mauricia Thomas-Francis highlighted the importance of the Adopt-a-Cause projects, stating, “CIBC FirstCaribbean continues to be a socially responsible entity by identifying areas within our community where a positive contribution can be made that will enrich the lives of those in need. It is important to note that these projects were not selected arbitrarily, but that our staff members came together and selected projects that they are passionate about and that they deem worthy.”
