(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – SLUDTERA wishes to make an announcement. For those of you who read about this program and showed interest, but didn’t get to apply in time, The #SHSL Team has listened and has a Startup Huddle St. Lucia update – Application to present on November 14th 2018 has been extended.
The 2018 #SHSL team has decided to extend the application deadline by one week due to a sudden influx of interest in the program. The new deadline will ensure that even more great ideas and startups are given the opportunity to present in the Startup Huddle St. Lucia program/event. Even for those who have not yet applied, it is not too late to start and complete the simple application. The benefits of presenting your startup are limitless.
The new Startup Huddle St. Lucia application to present on November 14th deadline is 11:59 p.m. AST, September 6, 2018.
Startup Huddle is a free, monthly program designed to Educate, Engage and Connect Entrepreneurs. Once every month, Entrepreneurs come together to pitch their startup, reveal challenges and crowd-source solutions. From local founders, innovators, educators, and investors, to a global network of Entrepreneurial leaders, Startup Huddle provides a unique platform to strengthen the startup community.
THE STARTUP HUDDLE HISTORY
Startup Huddle is a global movement born in the United States to help one entrepreneur at a time. This movement is called 1 Million Cups. People attend each event to hear two to three entrepreneurs share their successes and challenges. Each speaker is given 6 minutes. After each speaker, there’s a question/answer session, as well as time for networking.
Since that time, many individuals have attended Startup Huddle around the world, and have taken Startup Huddle to their own communities- including Malawi, Niger, Tunisia, Jordan and other cities. All organizers have the same intent: to build their startup community. The goal is to help every community connect, engage and educate.
WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNED
To succeed, the next generation of entrepreneurs need more dedicated assistance. The Global Entrepreneurship Network has developed a model to provide an easy and consistent event that will help your community connect, engage, and educate.
This serves as a great next step after other popular events such as Global Entrepreneurship Week.
St. Lucia has now joined the network in bringing Startup Huddle to its community as there is a healthy saturation of Entrepreneurial Spirit on the island. We intend to especially highlight initiatives which address some of the sustainable development goals such as; (i) Quality Education, (ii) Decent Work & Economic Growth, (iii) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, (iv) Affordable & Clean Energy, (v) Responsible Consumption & Production, and (vi) Climate Action.
The Startup Huddle Chapters in the Western Hemisphere will be overseen by GEN Member Michelle N. Samuel. The Startup Huddle St. Lucia chapter will be hosted by SLUDTERA and organized by Michelle N Samuel and her team of Local & Regional Co-organizers or Team #SHSL.
When Entrepreneurs present at Startup Huddle, it’s not a sales pitch, and it’s not an investor pitch. The goal is to have people understand what they do and some of the challenges they have had in building their business.
Startup Huddle St. Lucia is an educational event, and for this reason, it will form part of SLUDTERA’s Entrepreneurship Readiness Program. All entrepreneurs who enroll in The Entrepreneurship Readiness Program and who meet the program presentation requirements will receive a series of challenges and are required to present possible solutions to these challenges, as a product or social enterprise, that will address one or more of the identified sustainable development goals. Participants will receive assistance from Mentors if they choose to be assigned one.
Other Entrepreneurs who apply to present at this event, must first meet the criteria in order to be approved.
Entrepreneurs who present at Startup Huddle St. Lucia, will be able to apply to present at any Startup Huddle chapter hosted in any country around the world if their intention is to branch off into that market!
Applicants applying to present their startups at Startup Huddle St. Lucia are required to explain the “Why” behind their product, social enterprise, company or project. Applicants are also required to explain their business strategy for their startup or idea. Finally, applicants will be required to do a 6-minute pitch which showcases their innovation and excite viewers about their project’s potential.
All applications for the Startup Huddle St. Lucia program are presented in person in St. Lucia. Young founders from other islands in the Caribbean or around the globe who have an interest in bringing their business to St. Lucia and who would like to present at #SHSL must make their own airfare and Visa arrangements. The #SHSL team will assist with accommodation, meals and ground travel.
So do not wait! Apply before 11:59 p.m. AST, September 6th, 2018 for your opportunity to present your startup as a young entrepreneur.
