PRESS RELEASE – The third annual Soca Competition “Soca Switch” is expected to ignite the Gaiety Gardens come Saturday May 20th 2017. And, the world’s number one aperitif Campari will help the event do just that.
This week, distributors of Campari, Peter & Company Distribution (PCD) signed a partnership with Just 4 Fun, organizers of “Soca Switch” which would allow patrons and revelers to share in the world class experience brought on by the various brands of PCD.
These will include Skyy Vodka, Dewars, Hennessey, Moet, Barefoot Wines, Johnnie Walker and of course Campari, which will receive prominence at all Just 4 Fun events including “Cooler Fete”, “Escape”, “Remedy” and “Indulgence: Breakfast Fete” as well as the pre-J’ouvert Jab Jab fete and Monday and Tuesday carnival.
But for now, the focus is on Campari, which will engage patrons at Saturday’s Soca Switch in enticing ways to share and enjoy, in what is already a favourite of many.
“We are happy to be a part of this event because it is an exciting one and lives up to our expectations,” says Denver Alcee, Brand Manager for Campari at PCD.
“I think it is a great platform to engage and reward the loyal Campari consumers. We also believe that it was a very considerable move to include the Dennery segment in this event as the performers have exceptional and unique talent and Campari is always more than willing to contribute to the development of such talent,” Alcee added.
The Campari brand manager went on to thank the Soca Switch committee for choosing Campari as a partner and sponsor of such an event.
Soca Switch is a competition which was pulled together three years ago by the organizers, to help jump start the musical experience for carnival each year.
“What we realized was that in the past, artiste would hold back their music and release late. The revelers would complain and say they were not feeling the vibe early enough and the DJs had little music to play to extend the carnival season,” Veil Tobierre of Just 4 Fun says.
“Since the introduction of Soca Switch we believe that this has changed and we see the event growing and we are thankful to sponsors like PCD and Campari for recognizing this growth and the importance of such an event to the development of the art-form,” Tobierre also expressed.
For “Soca Switch – 3”, a Kuduro competition (popularly known as the Dennery Segment) has been added, alongside the regular Power and Groovy Soca competition, giving patrons double for their money.
The new Soca genre which has its roots in African Kuduro music and Cadance, has taken the nation by storm with its infectious beats and simple catchy hooks, often sung in both English and Creole. The music has even made its way into a number of carnivals including Trinidad, Miami, New York and Jamaica.
Saturday’s Soca event which begins at 10 pm will feature eleven performers in the Kuduro segment.
They are Blue Label with Vacuum, Blackboy – Fire, Bossla – TicTic, Freezy – Clap, Mac 11 – Bend Up Ur Back, General Bakes – Make Your Ex Vex, Mata ft Migos – Piwat, Mongstar – Hold a Gyal, Shepp Dawg –Siddong, Stinger – Half-Half and Subance & Mighty – Bad in Bum Bum.
The Soca component will feature reigning Soca Switch champion Brandon with Perfect Stranger. Other performers include Versi Style – Play Mas, Chunky – Blessed to be Alive, D’Sean – Life We Living, Shemmy J – Bumper to Zipper, Sergie – I In Dat, Shanro – I Want a man, Young DP – carnival Queen, Imran Nerdy – Gudo, Private 6 – Catch a Fitz, Mysterio – Call Me, Antonio – On d Road and Yana Saphire – Momentum.
Performers will be competing for over EC$15,000 in cash and prizes including special hampers from Campari and PCD and the championship belt.
This newly infused Soca Switch makes for a perfect fit with Campari which is an infusion of herbs and fruit characterized by a vivid taste in keeping with what is anticipated come Saturday night at the Gaiety in Rodney Bay.
