PRESS RELEASE – More than 400 volunteers gathered this past weekend to participate in IGY Marinas’ annual philanthropic initiative, Inspire Giving through You. The company’s corporate staff, marina associates, Anchor Club Strategic Partners, yacht owners, captains and crew members spent the day supporting local charitable organizations in the Caribbean and Latin America.
“IGY Marinas is truly humbled to see so many members within our industry join us for a day of inspiring and giving back to communities around the world,” said Tom Mukamal, CEO of IGY Marinas. “We have always looked for ways to support the local communities in which we have a company presence, prompting a new approach last year with Inspire Giving through You. This new platform allows us to bring multiple participants to our efforts, improve the coordination of our efforts, and gain greater exposure for the charities and entities we are seeking to support.”
Marina efforts for this year’s Inspire Giving through You initiative included:
Colombia – Volunteers from Marina Santa Marta once again partnered with Fundehumac to rebuild the school’s ceiling as part of its ongoing support of the facility. Local businesses in the area also supported the event by donating supplies and other materials.
Mexico – Marina Cabo San Lucas worked with the local Fire Brigade to provide a covered structure for the on-site vehicles and equipment, as well as installed an anti-theft perimeter fencing and replaced the facility’s water pump. Several local organizations contributed by providing work materials and other building goods to support the event.
St. Lucia – Rodney Bay Marina volunteers improved the aesthetics of the New Beginnings Transit Home, which included constructing a gazebo, rewired security lighting, and the creation of a kitchen garden. Donation and event sponsors included, Amazon Landscaping; Bread Basket; Café Ole; Carasco and Sons Ltd.; Exelsign; Greening the Caribbean; Lucian Tees; and Rodney Bay Marina Taxi Association.
St. Maarten – Yacht Club at Isle de Sol and Simpson Bay Marina teamed up with the New Start for Children Foundation, where volunteers spent the day painting the interior and exterior of the foster home and installed a new television, which was donated by the Horizons II vessel. Sponsors of the event included, Carrefour Market; Domino’s Pizza; Fat Turtle Restaurant; Heavenly Water; N.V. NAPA Marine and Auto Parts; Robelto & Son B.V.; St. Maarten Luxury Transportation; Stan The Man Tours N.V; and The Rotary Club of St. Maarten.
St. Thomas – The teams at Yacht Haven Grande Marina and American Yacht Harbor began the initial build out on the Hydrologic Environmental Learning Center at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. As part of the marinas’ ongoing support, plans for the completion of a green house, raised beds and orchard, along with a work station that will be used as an outdoor science lab are underway. Turks & Caicos – Blue Haven Marina participants constructed an outdoor play and discovery area for theExtraordinary Minds Ashley Learning Centre, which included the installation of a fence, ground cover, sand pit, and outdoor furnishings. Sponsors included, Blue Haven Resort; Do It Centre Building Materials; Environmental Arts; and PTS Equipment Rental.
Plans for Inspire Giving through You’s summer outreach events are scheduled for June 10, 2017. The company will announce more details on participating marina locations and non-profit organizations in the coming months.
