PRESS RELEASE – The St Lucia Youth Business Trust (SLYBT) is the recipient of US$15000.00 grant from the parent company of Tropical Shipping, Saltchuk Company.
Saltchuk is a privately owned family of diversified transportation and distribution companies headquartered in Seattle and provides air cargo, domestic and international shipping and logistics, marine services throughout North America and the Caribbean. Saltchuk Caribbean Regional Giving Committee pool resources from their operating companies and allocate funds to impact youth development and post-secondary education programs.
The grant will be used to assist young promising entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 to 25 across all sectors and backgrounds in launching their business. Eligible participants will be required to participate in the SLYBT Youth Entrepreneurial Program.
The St. Lucia Youth Business Trust is a non-profit organization that provides youth, island wide, the opportunity to develop their business ideas and strengthen their ventures. Over the years, the SLYBT has helped hundreds of youth gain economic independence through the provision of mentorship, personal development training and a venture enhancement series.
The presentation was made to the 1st Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and Trustee of the St Lucia Youth Business Trust, Mr. Christian Husbands at the St Lucia Business Awards on Saturday January 28th 2017.
In presenting the cheque, Island Manager of Tropical Shipping, Mr. Gerard Bergasse confirmed his company’s commitment in youth development stating, “Tropical Shipping is very pleased to be involved with the St. Lucia Youth Business Trust; we see this as an opportunity in helping young people become enterprising and hopefully making them part of the business community; something we feel will help the youth in the region.”
He went on further to challenge individuals present to support the Youth Business Trust and help young people become part of the business community.
Saltchuk made a similar donation in the amount of US$10000.00 to the Barbados Youth Business Trust and over the last decade, Saltchuk have given an average of $2.5 million annually, to communities in which they serve.
Saltchuk companies serving the Caribbean include: Interstate Distributor, Tropical Shipping, TOTE Maritime, TOTE Services and StratAir.
