PRESS RELEASE – St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) is in receipt of a copy of a letter to the Minister of Labour from the Civil Service Association (CSA) giving notice of a dispute between the CSA and LUCELEC. The letter also serves as notice of strike action.
Under the Labour Act LUCELEC is listed as an essential service and the Act sets out the procedure for handling trade disputes in an essential service. LUCELEC will be guided by and cooperate fully with the procedure set out in the Act and any directives from the Minister of Labour in that regard.
The CSA represents LUCELEC’s Grade 1 employees or line staff, which accounts for 136 of the Company’s staff. LUCELEC and the CSA have been engaged in discussions on some matters as well as negotiations on a new collective agreement, but the Company was not aware that there was an impasse. LUCELEC is hopeful that the matter will be resolved quickly and amicably.
