PRESS RELEASE – The Embassy of Mexico has the pleasure to inform of the success of the International Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean, which took place in Cancun, Mexico, from the 16th to the 18th of November.
Numerous representatives from the business sectors and governments of the region attended the Forum, which saw the participation of over 160 companies from the Greater Caribbean specialized in, amongst others, processed foods and drinks, plastics manufacturing, construction materials, chemicals, textile, cars and automotive parts, machinery, electronic equipment, health and pharmaceuticals, and ITC.
Amongst the noticeable participants in the event were the Minister with responsibility for External Affairs of Saint Lucia, Honourable Sarah Flood Beaubrun; the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States, Dr. June Soomer; the CEO of Invest St Lucia, Mr. McHale Andrew, and the General Director of ProMexico, Francisco N. González Díaz.
Minister Flood-Beaubrun, addressed the plenary session, entitled “Boosting a strategic relationship with the Greater Caribbean”, and highlighted how the economies of the Greater Caribbean can pursue regional integration in order to form synergies that can increase the competitiveness of the regional as a whole. The Minister stated that the priorities for Saint Lucia in its bilateral relation with Mexico are cooperation, as well as the intensification of commerce and investment.
ProMexico, the investment promotion agency of Mexico hosted the Forum, with the objective of fostering regional economic development and competitiveness by increasing trade and investment flows, and to explore new business opportunities for Caribbean companies in global value chains.
In order to meet this objective, the program included business seminars and workshops on the main challenges and opportunities for the Greater Caribbean, as well as business matchmaking sessions, a simple and efficient mechanism of planned face-to-face meetings between international buyers and Caribbean exporters.
All in all, the 2016 Cancun Forum achieved its objective of fostering promising business ties and strategic relationship that will promote the competitiveness and well-being of the Greater Caribbean region.
