PRESS RELEASE – With the Rio Olympics just days away, Flow Sports is all set to deliver the most comprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games the people of the region have ever seen with complete focus on Caribbean athletes and Flow Olympic Ambassadors.

In celebration of the final leg of its countdown to the Games, the Flow St. Lucia invited members of the local media to a special presentation in honour of St. Lucia’s National Olympic Squad inclusive of Flows Brand Ambassador Levern Spencer and other Flow Olympic Ambassadors as they prepare for the journey to Rio.

The presentation was held at the Bay Gardens Resort on Thursday and was fully endorsed by the Youth and Sports Department of the Ministry for Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government.

Among the invited guests were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Anthony George, Gregory Dickson, manager of 2015 Pan Am Games gold medallist high-jumper and Flow Ambassador, Levern Spencer, Levern’s mother, Mrs. Anne Spencer and representatives of the Ministry’s ‘758 Champions Tour – Olympic Edition’ program.

Flow is the ‘official Broadcast Partner of Rio 2016 Olympic Games,’ the only provider to ever offer a high definition, multi-channel, multi-platform Olympic experience to the millions of viewers across its 15 Caribbean markets.

Flow St. Lucia’s Marketing and Communications Executive, Shermalyn Sidonie-John reaffirmed that Flow will extend access of its broadcast rights to the Rio 2016 Olympics to enable other providers throughout the Caribbean to air the event. She said Flow recognizes that the games are important to the Caribbean and believes the entire region should be able to share in the Olympic experience.

“We have adopted an inclusive approach by ensuring that there is access to Olympic content via Over-The-Air stations across the Caribbean, despite our exclusive rights under our partnership with CANOC,” said Ms Sidonie-John. All operators however, will be required to black out NBC’s coverage of the Games due to territorial rights issues.

Ms Sidonie-John added: “We will introduce specially developed news and features on our regional athletes, and launch multiple broadcast feeds and mobile/internet streaming to the Caribbean for the first time in the region’s history. Flow will also be delivering the Games via our innovative Flow Rio 2016 Extra app, giving customers access to every Olympic event at their fingertips, and on the go, a first for the Caribbean region.”

Flow took the opportunity to launch a documentary video funded by the company and featuring Levern Spencer’s athletic development and her rise to superstardom. Videos of other Flow Ambassadors’ Olympic journey are also being released.

Flow has been actively supporting the development of the region’s athletes and future Olympians as part of its Olympics Campaign. The company has signed regional endorsements with several of the region’s athletes, including Levern Spencer, Olympic gold medallist Kirani James (Grenada), Khalifa St Fort (Trinidad & Tobago), Delano Williams (Turks and Caicos) and star hurdler Jaheel Hyde (Jamaica).

Levern’s video was a huge hit with the local audience, including her manager, Gregory Dickson, who expressed his delight and thanked Flow for its invaluable support to the Levern over the years.

“We are very grateful for all what Flow has done to assist Levern and for bringing the Rio Olympics to sports fans across the Caribbean. For the first time we will be able to see the Olympics the way we want to see it.

“Flow was very influential in getting Levern where she is today and has helped her achieve quite a lot over the past decade. It has not been easy but thanks to the support from Flow we have made tremendous progress and Levern is very grateful. She is confident of her chances of winning a medal at the Olympics. This year has been one of her best years ever, based on the number of medals she has won. This time around she is better prepared. Considering all what Flow has done to help her, we are optimistic that she will go out there and make St. Lucia proud,” said Mr. Dickson.

Permanent Secretary, Mr Anthony George said the Department of Youth and Sports is extremely pleased to partner with Flow for the development of sports in St. Lucia.

“We are excited to be able to watch the Olympics wherever we are and on the go with Flow, like never before. At the Ministry we are creating our own Olympic Village and in the coming days 100 ‘756 Champions’ will converge to celebrate and support the members of our National Olympics squad and St. Lucia’s sporting achievements both in the past and in the present,” said Mr George.

The aim of the Ministry’s ‘758 Champions Tour’ program is to aid in developing a culture of excellence among St. Lucia’s youths and to elevate the national consciousness towards sports. Flow is a sponsor of the program.

Levern’s Mom joined in offering best wishes to the National Olympics team. She was pleased to say how proud she is of her daughter and said she appreciated the support Levern has been receiving from Flow.

“I feel so happy for Levern. She has tried very hard to get where she is today. We are all praying for her. Even if she does not come back home with a medal, we know she has worked very hard and achieved what so many people have tried to achieve and not been able to. No matter what, for me she will always be a winner!” said Mrs Spencer.
Beginning on August 5th, sports fans can catch the live Olympic programming on Flow TV, on the go “Wherever and Whenever” by downloading the Flow To Rio Extra App or via the Flow to Rio

Through Flow Sports and other dedicated TV channels Flow will offer viewers the widest range of Olympic programming available, enabling its customers to enjoy over 2000 hours of live sporting action, more than any other broadcaster in the region.

As the magical moment approaches, we at Flow ask our customers to join us in support of our athletes and to share in the excitement as we get ready to #FlowToRio.
