GL Food Market announces its People’s Choice Competition winner

PRESS RELEASE – On Sunday 10th April, 2016, seven young hopefuls for the S. Pellegrino and Aqua Panna Caribbean Jr Chef competition participated at a “People’s Choice” event hosted by the competition’s bronze sponsor gl food market.

gl food market has been supporting the Jr Chef programs since 2014. The event gave its premier customers the opportunity to experience first hand the talent on the island and application of its wide variety of high quality ingredients.

Managing Director for Consolidated Foods Ltd the parent company of gl food market, Martin Dorville expressed the company’s commitment to youth development in St Lucia and providing fine dining quality ingredients to shoppers at the supermarket.

Vernance Dore, a young chef from The Cliff At Cap restaurant at Cap Maison Resort and Spa won the People’s Choice award and two hundred dollars ($200) in vouchers from gl food market.

This event was a taste of what is come and featured true Italian tastings from high quality brands like S. Pellegrino, Ruffino and Campari. gl food market’s team headed by Mrs. Flood, showed off their culinary skills by serving a number of freshly cooked appetizer. The guests also got to see the other side of Fritolay and Tropical Delight as a cocktail event appetizer.

The S. Pellegrino and Aqua Panna Caribbean Jr Chef competition is being produced by Seashell Consulting and broadcasted by Gold Sponsor DBS later this year. On Tuesday, 12th April, some members of the Grand Jury will meet to review all the applications received for St Lucia, and select the top five chefs who will compete at Cap Maison Resort and Spa for a coveted place in the finale.

The winner from St Lucia will have to compete against other talented junior chefs from Barbados, Guadeloupe, St Martin and Curacao at The Landings St. Lucia on 21st May, 2016. The finale is being held under the patronage of St. Lucia’s governor general Dame Perlette Louisy. Crown Foods and the St. Lucia Marketing Board are amongst the sponsors providing provisioning for this event.

The winner will walk away with a one-week scholarship (valued Euro 3,500) to attend one of Italy’s most prestigious culinary schools ALMA di La Scola Internazionale, a laptop from J.E. Bergasse and more. There is also a special prize from bronze sponsor Digicel.

This is truly an exciting time for young culinary professionals in St. Lucia.
