PRESS RELEASE – In the spirit of national development Digicel continues to support initiatives geared towards fostering greater national involvement, awareness and pride among citizens.
As part of St. Lucia’s 37th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Digicel collaborated with the Ministry of Public Service, Information and Broadcasting in hosting the first ever mapathon “Map4SaintLucia” at the Derek Walcott Square on Sunday February 28th.
Map4SaintLucia seeked to provide a better understanding about St. Lucia’s landscape while improving the discoverability of places and communities around the island.
Participants were engaged in mapping projects of social and economic value to St. Lucia. The project also demonstrated how technical innovators and entrepreneurs can use mapping data for national development.
Through Digicel’s cutting edge technology and infrastructure the ministry and participants were able to receive the necessary technological support to enable them to use their mapping apps effectively.
Marketing and Communications Executive at Digicel Miss Louise Victor commented on Digicel’s involvement for Map4SaintLucia said “Digicel being the leader in cutting edge technology always seeks innovative ways to get our customers to optimize the use of their smartphones, gadgets and apps, specifically mapping apps.
Given the heavy focus on technology in this initiative, it was only natural that as the leading telecommunications company in the region we pioneer something as revolutionary as this.
We are grateful to the Ministry of Public Service, Information and Broadcasting for the opportunity to partner and contribute to their quest of increasing access to information for all St. Lucians.”
