maxresdefaultPRESS RELEASE – Digicel Play, the ultimate in home entertainment service that allows customers to view multiple channels and enjoy Internet speeds from 25 megabytes to 1 gigabyte per second has been officially launched in Barbados.

The launch, which took place at the Digicel Experience Store at the Colonnade in Bridgetown, came just weeks after the company celebrated its 12th anniversary in Barbados.

Digicel Play is jam-packed with cool features, making it the most attractive home entertainment experience around, delivering TV, telephony and the fastest broadband in Barbados – coupled with the best channel and content line-up plus the best viewing experience.

As Barbados’ only all-fibre network, Digicel Play passes 75% of homes across the island with eight strategic network distribution points in the areas of Needhams Point, Oistins, Carlton, Manor Lodge, Durants, Wildley, Speightstown and Six Roads with plans for further expansions.

Charlie Clementson, CEO for Digicel Play Barbados comments, “It’s all about giving our customers access to superfast broadband internet speeds. Fibre is more resilient, more secure, more direct and more efficient than other networks, it’s unaffected by the elements, terrain, location or distance – simply put, it’s always awesome.”

During his welcome address, Conor Looney, CEO for Digicel Barbados underscores his company’s commitment Barbados, saying, “By the end of 2016, we will have invested over BBD100 million in rolling out the most robust and reliable fibre network across the country.

Importantly, Digicel Play was built by Barbadians for Barbadians – already we have employed and trained over 100 local employees in sales, engineering, marketing and finance and we are committed to continuing to invest in and give back to Barbados’ economic development through technology.”

Also in attendance were Digicel Barbados board member Ralph ‘Bizzy’ Williams as well as Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Honourable Ronald Jones.

“The future is here,” was the response from Minister Jones during his address at the launch. He continued, “I wish to compliment Digicel on bringing to Barbados this level of speed via its world class fibre optic network. Many times consumers are paying for A but they are getting B and what I have seen here today demonstrates a certain level of authenticity. I think that Barbadians will have a very high level of satisfaction by what is being rolled out by Digicel Barbados.”
