The Vieux Fort City Council has evicted several vendors from Clarke Street, Vieux Fort after giving them adequate warning to move from the illegal spot.
Reports are the vendors were told by the Council that they had up to March 1, to move, because they were occupying space which were built for pedestrians.
Additionally, there have been several complaints from persons from the business district about fish vendors in particular, who were not cleaning up properly, which causes the area to stink.
It has been reported that during a meeting held with the police and Council, the vendors were encouraged to organize themselves into an association to see how best the situation could be addressed.
While the Council has suggested that the vendors relocate to the market in Vieux Fort, most of them did not welcome the idea, simply because of slow commercial activity in that area.
