PRESS RELEASE – With the New Year upon us and on behalf of BCCCSL, I take this opportunity to wish you peace and prosperity for the year ahead.
As we reflect on the year that has past we can take satisfaction in the establishment of the British Caribbean Chamber of Commerce in Saint Lucia and what we have been able to achieve in a short amount of time.
We were delighted that with the support and cooperation of RISE, Dr Stephen King, Shelley Ann Noonand Dr Bird, the Chamber was able to assist in the placement of over 40 full tuition fee scholarships for Saint Lucia. In addition in the latter part of the year, through the British High Commission, we were able to announce that the number of Foreign Office Chevening Scholarships had been doubled.
The Chamber also welcomed Lord Howard as it’s Patron. A member of the Privy Council, former Home Secretary and Leader of the UK Conservative Party, Lord Howard brings a wealth of experience and contacts, both of which will help open doors to new bi-lateral initiatives and investment.
At our launch Party, earlier in the year, we were honoured by the support we received from across the Island, both amongst the business and political communities. Her Excellency the Governor General was joined by the Speaker of the Senate, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, ministers, Leader of the United Workers Party and other, all of whom joined us in showing their commitment to promoting Saint Lucia as a place for business.
In the year ahead we will continue with this work. We will support British investors with an eye to this Island and to Saint Lucian entrepreneurs who see opportunity in the United Kingdom.
